Notes on this view:

This image of a new born baby and her nurse was likely taken by an amateur photographer. The introduction of roll film in the late 1880s democratized photography making it accessible to the average person. Gelatin chloride printing papers called gas light papers that were slower (less sensitive) than modern gelatin bromide papers were also available for amateur use. The term "gas light" indicates the papers could be contact printed using light from a gas lamp and processed at home. This print is possibly made using a gas light paper.
