Notes on this view:

This vernacular snapshot dated June 11, 1913 depicts two women enjoying summer vacation near a lake. After the introduction of the Kodak Brownie in the late 1880s, photography was much more accessible to the average person. Advertising for amateur photographic equipment and materials targeted middle and upper middle class women in particular. Notice the women are posed on an Indian motorcycle, a popular motorcycle in the early 20th century. Some models could accommodate two riders with a seat over the rear wheel.
