Notes on this view:

This French carbon print is presented as a carte de visite (cdv), a 4 x 2½ inch card mount format. The image color has been chosen to replicate that of gold toned albumen; the dominate process of the time. As is typical of carbon prints the photograph shows no signs of image-based deterioration. Carbon prints are produced by varying the thickness of a layer of gelatin containing a dispersion of pigment particles, a method that is highly stable. Also, notice the photographer's monogram is printed at the bottom on the card.
