This platinum print has a warm, brownish image color with soft blacks and subtle tonal gradations. The warm color was achieved in the darkroom by increasing the temperature of the processing solutions or by toning the image with mercury.

This print is mounted in a folder, a presentation method used by portrait studios beginning in the late 1800s. The positive transfer image seen on the left was likely created by catalytic paper degradation.
