Wood Engravings Line Quality Wood engravings are created using a chisel-like tool called a burin to cut a relief image that will not bear ink into the end grain of a block of hardwood. Images emphasizing the white line are relatively common, as the images are formed from a default black field. The white lines created by the burin have a pointed end and a carved appearance. These features can be seen using relatively low magnification, such as a loupe. |
